Redox equation balancing (please help me)
« on: December 20, 2007, 08:34:58 PM »
I am having difficulties doing the following redox equation balancing... Please help me

[Cr(N2H4CO)6]4 [Cr(CN)6]3 + MnO4^(-1) --> Cr2O7^(-2) + Mn^(+2) + CO2 + NO3^(-1) (acid)

I don't even know how to break this up into smaller equations...
Any sort of help is appreciated so i can start in the right path!

You'd better post this question to the Inorganic Chemistry forum 'cuz I don't think that an Organic Chemist would help you in this question!!!

Are you sure the formula for the first compound in your equation is correct? Is it a neutral compound?

N2H4CO is urea, and it's a neutral ligand. CN is cyanide, an anionic ligand (charge -1)

So [Cr(N2H4CO)6]3[Cr(CN)6]3 would make sense: it's just Cr (III).

Check it, please, and I'll try to help you.
