Finding pH
« on: December 25, 2007, 12:08:52 AM »
A sample of baking soda was dissolved in water and the pOH of the solution was found to be 5.81 at 25 deg. Is the solution acidic,basic,or neutral? Calculate the pH, [H3O], AND [OH] of the solution.

pOH = 14-5.81
      = 8.19

[H3O] = 10-5.81
         = 1.5 x10-6

[OH] = 10-8.19
       = 6.5 x 10-9

Check your understanding of pH and pOH as well as their relation

Your results are OK. You have not answered whether the solution is basic or acidic.
