Synthesis Of Aspirin Using acid chloride?
«

Hi I should be very grateful if someone could help me with the following question.
Write an equation for the synthesis of aspirin using acid chloride instead of acetic anhydride.
This has been confusing me for hours I have checked my notes, books and the internet but cannot find anything that will help me answer the question. I am sorry if it is blazingly obvious but i have very little chemistry knowledge and am getting nowhere at all on my own.
Thanks again

Do you know what
acid chloride
is?
Sometimes it is referred to as
acetyl chloride
.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetyl_chloride
Which can be
substituted
for acetic anhydride and the use of a
base
(pyridine) to consume the hydrochloric acid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspirin#Synthesis
Salicylic Acid -(Acetyl Chloride + Pyridine)-> Aspirin + Pyridine HCl

Hi and thanks for your reply.
Yes i have been onto wikipedia and looked up acetyl chloride but was not getting anywhere at all. Thank you so much for your help, I will now try to write and balance the equation from here.
Kind regards,

Here is you aspirin prep using acetyl chloride in place of acetic anhydride. I am attaching the pdf and here is the link you can download it yourself:
