...so am I completely backwards then?  I refer to any of my Professors who have Ph.D's as Dr. so and so.  Then lecturer's who have a Master's or something, I call Professor.  I went by the same logic that they put in the effort for a Ph.D so they earned the title Dr.  I'm in the midwest.

I think Dr. or Professor is fine.  Some Professors might prefer professor but their official title with a PhD is Dr.
