calculation question by using cryoscopic constant
« on: January 23, 2008, 01:14:39 PM »
Some insects developed a protection mechanism against freezing ,in which their blood is enriched in glycerol at low temp.Estimated what temp the parasitic wasp Bracon cephi would survive if its blood could have concentation of glycerol as high as 30%by mass.Assume that solution of glycerol in blood has the same properties as its aqu solution ans its behavior is ideal .Molecular mass of glycerol is 92 .Cryoscopic constant of water Kf is 1.86kmol-1 kg .
I would like to know how to calculate that plx help .thank you

Look up freezing point depression in your chemistry textbook under the section about colligative properties.
