hydrolysis of t-butyl chloride
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:10:36 PM »
Hi,
I have a lab that I am trying to do:
I am supposed to find the rate law for the reaction between tBuCl and water, how concentrations of different reactants affect the rate. I know the rate determining step involves only the tBuCl, but how can I find out what the order of the reaction rate is?
also, the tBuCl is in an acetone solution, and NaOH and a pH indicator is used to observe the rate of reaction. But how do I alter the concentration of water without changing polarity, or vice versa?
I would appreciate any help
thanks
