Is the Atomic Mass of O the same as O
2
? That is if O
2
is by itself? Does the same apply to H
2
?

The atomic mass of oxygen is one half of the molecular mass of O
2
because O
2
consists of two oxygen atoms. In other words, because O
2
has two oxygen atoms, the O
2
molecule has twice the mass of a single oxygen atom.
