Need Help Balancing Redox Equation
« on: February 09, 2008, 08:41:48 PM »
K2Cr2O7 + Na2SO3 + HCl   → KCl + Na2SO4 + CrCl3 + H2O

I've gotten to the point where I've found that the reduction is the Cr and the oxidation is the S.
Using the half equation method how am I supposed to proceed? Do I then split these compounds up into ions? Such as:

reduction: Cr2O72- → Cr3+

oxidation: SO32- → SO42-

Would these be the two half equations?

Yes. Keep going  :)

Do you know the steps of solving the half reactions?
