Will this titration works? Reasonable?
« on: January 11, 2014, 10:27:15 AM »
I try to analysis the assay of undecanoyl chlorde with methanol as a solvent, then titrate with 0.1N AgNO3. My reason is methanol will react with undecanoyl chlorde then release Cl, so I can determine the assay of  undecanoyl chlorde. Will this titration works? Reasonable?

I don't think so, but it may work.  I frequently quantitate  quaternary ammonium chlorides by silver nitrate titration, but in that case the chloride is ionized in water.  I'm not sure the methanol will release ionic chloride into aqueous solution.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
