« on: February 13, 2008, 01:57:31 PM »
I have been out w/ mono for the past month and am completely lost in Chemistry....your help would be greatly appreciated...
Please solve the following equation and also include what states each molecule is in....ex: H20 (l) = liquid     ??? ??? ???

Write the reaction for the dissolution of ammonium chloride in water.

Write the reaction for the dissolution of sodium carbonate in water.

Write the reaction that occurs when sodium bicarbonate is mixed with citric acid.

Write the reaction that occurs when magnesium metal is mixed with hydrochloric acid.

Write the reaction for calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid.

Write the reaction for magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid.

Try and see if your textbook can give you some hints, take some random stabs at these questions, and let us see what results.  We'll give you some pointers, if we can.

ok i got this far....i dont know if this is even right but here i go...

NH4Cl + H20 -->

Na2CO3 + H20 -->

NaHCO3 + C6H8O7 -->

Mg + HCl --> H2+MgCl2

CaCO3 + HCl -->

Mg(OH)2 + HCl -->

I just have no idea how to do these.....if anyone can do any of these, maybe ill be able to use that example to do some of the rest...  Thanks again.

Try googling dissolution reactions and acid/base reactions.  And make sure your Mg equation is balanced - you have the right molecules.

Try here:

http://www.wisc-online.com/objects/index_tj.asp?objID=GCH6204

It might help if you write the formula of citric acid as H3C6H5O7
Knowing why you got a question wrong is better than knowing that you got a question right.
