I am currently in Organic Chemistry II and our big research project is to find a commonly used compound in industry (doesnt matter  oil, medical, ect..) that has two or more different routes that can be used to synthesize the compound and each route must contain more than 3 steps i believe.  Ones that have been used are drugs such as aderol, viagra, tylenol, ect....   Any recommendations would be more than greatly appreciated. Currently i was looking for two ways to synthesize lidocaine (xylocaine) but i can only find one way through the use of . I have come to this dead end a few times with other drugs. I know many of you would have great ideas that would be interesting. Thanks again.

Can they be any route, or do they have to be a published synthesis?  If you're in Organic two, you might, with some extra looking be able to come up with two ways to make the precursor to Nylon 6...

it should be a published synthesis which i can cite in my paper and presentation. I will see what i find for nylon 6   thanks for the response
