Balancing a Cement Chemical Reaction
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:12:05 PM »
For the initial equation without the coefficients I got

First of all I'm not sure if this initial equation is even right. Wikipedia shows aluminum silicate as Al2SiO5 or something.

And plus to balance that is hard because all of the compounds have oxygen.

Dear Jwj11;

Did you extract your reaction from:   "Portland Cement

Good Luck!

Hmmm... this is going to be a tough one, the chemical reactions in cement are way more complicated than that.  Also, as I understood it dry cement is CaO, burnt lime, derived from CaCO3.  I hope you have simply written it wrong, and we don't have to work with the reactants you have.

*[EDIT]*
My post here  is wrong see below.

The question is word for word from my teacher... I'm scratching my head too because the reaction for cement is definitely more complicated.

Is it even possible to balance the equation I made?

Dear Agrobert;

I hope far away (~1400°C).

Good Luck!

Ah...I'm an idiot.  You've been given the formula to make cement, I was thinking of how to set cement.  Sheesh.  Can I take Scooby Snacks away from myself?

Dear Jwj11;

If we accept the Reaction in the kind your teacher gave it as a hypothetical reaction, do you know how to start balancing?
Do you know what balancing is meaning?

Good Luck!

Wow I am a fool.
Sorry for wasting everyone's time. I thought it was impossible to balance but I just did it.
I'm pretty sure that the equation I derived from the world problem is indeed correct.
Thanks for making the good points though.

Dear Jwj11;

You’re welcome!   ─   Soon again.
