1.   The purpose of www. Chemical forums.com is to foster interest and support for chemistry and related sciences.

I totally agree with this.

2.   The job forum is a sub forum in www.chemicalforums.com.  The purpose of which is to afford people in the chemical and related sciences to peruse and investigate posed employment opportunities.

3.   The statements that the entire site would become a site for merely posting jobs (jokes has been mentioned as well-ref. humor forum) is absurd and illogical.  Do you really believe that the entire focus of every individual on the forum is the job section?  That does not make logical sense.

4.   Explain in a logical sequence how posting current employment opportunities with top notch companies is a negative thing?  Explain how making sure the job section is current and updated poses a threat to www.chemicalforums.com? 

5.   If no one contributes to the job forum…if it remains dormant…it is neither current nor productive.  Current and productive posts are inherent to its existence as a positive tool.

6.   If you do not want to read a notification of a job posting you can mark it as “read”.  This tool has been implemented by the people who run the forum.

This is where we disagree.  I do not think there are very many people who visit this site to try and find a job.  Your multiple job/joke posts distort the forum away from its primary purpose of answering questions.

7.   Because you have distain for the person making the posts on the job forum-you would deprive the entire community of taking advantage of prime employment opportunities that may otherwise be inaccessible.

8.   You are not affecting me with your negativity.  I take time from my busy day to format and post those positions and opportunities.  All you are doing is closing off a valuable asset to people seeking employment.

9.   So you are suggesting it is OK to share only certain information.  That the sharing of job opportunities should be prohibited!!!  Interesting!!!  Is it the posts you are opposed to – or is it the person doing the posting?

10.   There are a number of recruiters I know personally who have registered on your site.  They have read your comments.  They feel you are opposed to employment and the opportunities they could present.  If they have openings they ask me to post them because they do not want to deal with your negativity.  In your blinding rage against the person posting you have effectively “cut off your nose to spite your face.”  Figuratively speaking…of course.

Am I in a blinding rage against you - No. 
Do I hate you - No of course not I've never met you.
Do your posts annoy me - Yes.

So I asked the question to see if I was alone in my irritation with you and your posts and it turns out I'm not the only one annoyed by your incessant posting of jobs & jokes.

11.   If you look at the jobs posted –they are Global opportunities:  USA, Europe, Canada, etc…

12.   The assertion that no one reads them is absurd.  Go look at the number of views.

13.   Generally, people work after they graduate.  Explain how job postings are a negative thing?

Yes some are global but most are for the US but that is not the real issue.
Yes of course some people read them, I've read some of them but it is not the reason I visit chemicalforums.  Yes people work after graduation, I've been employed continuously for the last 12½ years since I got my PhD.  I always keep an eye out for the next job but i look for them at specific sites.  Job posting are not a negative in the correct location.  However I do not feel that chemicalforums is the correct place for them.

14.   Because of the increased inquiries of undergraduates, graduates, post-docs-postings of opportunities for those segments of the population have increased.  Those postings address a demand/request for information/direction.

15.   Students often write the same question over and over and over:  How do I get a job?  What should I do? Where should I go? Who should I speak to?  What is the process?

A permanent procedure addressing the constant request from students as to how to proceed when applying for jobs-would not be a bad idea either.

Giving people the information about how to find a job, how to apply, interview technique etc. is one thing but posting jobs is very different.  This forum is set up and arranged to answer questions.  Jobs are better listed in a way that allows users to search by key words, location, salary, experience required etc.  This forum is not set up like that but other sites are.  I think we should direct people to those specialist sites rather than trying to turn this question and answer forum into a job listing site.

If the majority of site users want the job & jokes to stay then carry on if not please stop.

AN IDEA TO SATISFY BOTH CAMPS??

This isn't really any of my business, but, here is an idea which may help as an aceptable solution for both sides  -  take it or leave it.

Why not post all these job ads in a smaller number of longer threads entitled jobs in US, jobs in UK, jobs in Asia etc..    When the date from the job ad is past the ad can be deleted from the thread so it doesn't get too long. New ads can be added to the existing thread.

Any takers?

I do not have the power to change a person's focus.  I certainly do not move thousands who visit this forum with a certain goal in mind...OOPS and magically their focus changes...to jobs/jokes...if they want to view jobs and jokes they choose that forum...

No one forces anyone there...if you have your settings such that you want those notifications...they come thru...HHHHMMMM how come I never get those notifications? 

If a person comes here for problem solving assistance they go to the sub-section for the assistance they desire....you give me/credit me with too much power!!!! or are you trying to imply paople cannot think and decide for themselves what they want to view?

And you just contradicted yourself, AGAIN, and why would I expect less!!!!  Neither is it the main purpose of others...they visit multiple sub-sections..just like your RIGHT....No one said it was the main purpose of the forum...this is some dictate you have conceived in your own mind....

AAAHHH  no one is negating INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES....I POST WHAT IS SENT TO ME!!!!  They are diverse...some regions are more prevalent than others...I POST WHAT I GET....It is not a pre-designation....

The jobs are posted in the CORRECT LOCATION....the JOB SECTION of the FORUM.

On this forum you have the freedom to go where you like...TRY THAT!!!

Exactly which of those companies is not global?  99.9% are GLOBAL...they have international jobs posted elsewhere...so then if you go elsewhere....great for you!!!

There are people who do not know where to go....they do not know what to look for...they do not know how to proceed...see those posts give them apps to fill out and once they have the experience of going thru the process...OMG they get it!!!!   

Sometimes people need a little help..Hell, i had to explain to one of my graduate advisors how to fill out his app for DEA...I informed him of that job....INSIDER INFORMATION..I worked for US CUSTOMS...and you know what...he filled his app out just like mine...AND HE GOT IT...GS12 right in the door...

And he told me if he had not had my app as a guideline he never would have answered the questions that way...and he knew he would not have gotten that job....see that is a 30 page application!!!!!  And it winds up being 60 pages when completed with all thew documentation!!!!!

I mean everyone can use a little help RIGHT!!!!!

I was going to approach sepsci and ask them to link to chemicalforums....BUT OMG can you imagine they answer chromatography questions AND  have a JOB FORUM....and IT IS CURRENT....and they do not need to see this negativity!!!!!! And what ...you cannot handle the job forum here so if you link to another forum that has one....OMG imagine the fallout!!!!!  Absolutely the most absurd ideas I have encountered in a very long time!!!!!

You cannot apply your criteria to others....you cannot force them to think within the lines you feel are appropriate...you are entitled to your OPINION...it is an OPINION....not a dictate...not a law written in stone...

This is also a contradiction....I have directed them to a source...a direct source...I am telling them where the Co-Op and Internships are....and the directions in the applications tell them what they need to do.

Excuse me isn't that the subtitle in that sub-forum?  Or am I halucinating?   It says:  " If you are looking for a job, an internship....etc...feel free to post your CV..."   It was there long before I arrived on this forum!!!

So the job and humor forums were fine by you ...UNITL they  became more active than is to your liking!!!!!

This all started when I started to ADD TO THE FORUM....CHEMICAL FORUMS IS NOT A JOB SITE-it is a forum that is a support system for people in chemistry and related sciences-it is diverse-it has many sections...one of which is a job section.

Are you trying to streamline it?...Why do you want to limit the dimension?  Well, then you go.....carry on then!!!!

Every bit of this dissention started when I began to keep the job and humor forums current....they were both set in place long ago.....This all started when I began to add to it daily....Isn't a job sub-forum supposed to be kept current?   

So then some sections can be kept current and others not...just depends on what YOU want!!!!

OH I agree with P's suggestion...not a bad idea....would be nice to streamline and reformat so that section is easier to maneuver...International, USA, CANADA....Very nice idea...that is what I posted yesterday...like files...so people do not have to weed thru so many posts....to find what they want.

So go ahead and do your very best to eliminate that job section....since every other forum that is similar in nature and mission to Chemical Forums has one....this will be the only one without that ASSET....It will make you 1 in a million!!!!!!

Could it be, that such Statements are not so well, or better spoken: illogically conceived in case your primary goal would be to keep the particular “Sub-Forum(s)”?

With such doing you prefer the second worst solution of the Problem, in its worst direction!

Have you ever thought about that maybe not only Arkcon and I could have read your reply (for Arkcon) to the Thread you refer below, and which is now ‘deleted’. 
I remember specially your “Language”, and such parts of sentence as “ …. delete it. But wait …., “  … SOCCRA…. SOCRR….”, “ its because I’m a blondi” (not every character, every case or every dot is exactly/correctly “replayed”, because I didn’t take a real copy of it).
So how close to real true you report, and how long you really waited, if you write:

Maybe You should also think about, that also Mitch, not only I as a programmer, could know that the particular Thread maybe is not “hard” deleted/wiped, but rather only marked for, and so ….!

You should also remember, that only Mitch and/or his programmer(s) are able to solve the dilemma ‘we all’ are in now!

The worst Solution is, if Mitch would have deleted/ditched the Sub-Forum(s) directly.
The second worst is, if Mitch would have initialised voting, and as the result: ditch it, or keep the situation as it is!

But “the/a” solution is not so far, if we ask Mitch to implement only 5 till 10 ‘simple’:

“IF (…..) THEN …… ELSE ….”   Statements

into the “Management Program” of the Forum.
And maybe later he can optimise it a little bit.

But my Problem is now: “How we can now motivate Mitch to do this ‘simple’ modification, after he has read all this (and your) Replies and Statements?”

It would/could be a Solution for all, who uses the “Recent Postings”, or the “My recent unread Postings”!
It would/could be a Solution for all, who uses the “Search Button" and get highly battered by the Topics from the “Job Forum(s)”!
And!:  It would/could be a Solution for all (and I hope satisfy all), who visit the Chemical Forums and are at the same time interested in Jobs – in any kind!

I can only read and type so slow!!!!  I am used to doing 25 things at a time....And I had 2 screens open at one time....I type fast!!!!!

I found psychology to be very boring....and I discovered MATH....I LOVED IT...then I took chemistry....then I took so much math I took physics as well...so I grew up to be a Quantum Chemist...!!!!

Animus...I took 6 years of Latin and then Spanish...   I am not angry or mad.....I just do NOT have time to go round-and-round about this....as far as I am concerned...job forum is a good thing...it should be kept current...I will do my part to keep it current as long as it exists...

This is not about the job forum...this is about WHO is posting in the job forum.....and I am all good with that....I think Mitch will do what he can.  He knows the job forum is beneficial.  He said he liked it. 

In that thread I was NOT talking to Arkcon...I was making a statement!!!  The statement was accurate and correct!!!!  If I meant Arkcon to take that personally I would have e-mailed him.

OH I did take a screenshot of that post...I have it.  I take screenshots of my posts now because someone was deleting entire posts that I was responding to.  So I take screenshots and I save my notifications.....I learned to always keep files and tag my evidence when I was a Forensic Chemist.

I think it is pretty obvious I have no problem being direct....and I do NOT run to other people to solve/resolve my battles.

I am sure you can come up with some conditional statement (If ...Then ) solution.  But the delete button works just fine.....I do searches all the time and I never get any stuff from the job section...I do them in the forum section I am interested in....and in my unread posts..I just mark what I do not want as read.....WORKS FOR ME!!!!!!!

I can personally tell you there is alot of support to keep the job forum!!!!

But, if the job forum is lost...then the people who are looking for jobs will spend less time here looking...RIGHT!!!!  So they will lose people...just by that alone...it will hurt the forum overall....if they can come here and get questions answered and look for jobs....and post a blog...they can rread jokes, search for literature....they have a very COMPREHENSIVE place to hang out in!!!!!

And there is no point keeping it unless it is kept current...it is only useful ad proactive if it is kept current....I have done that...Since day 1 on this forum i have not seen proactve posts in the job forum or the humor forum....very few posts...so I gathered all my resources and I contributed all that 411 to the forum....NOW SURELY I CAN SEE HOW THIS HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE A BAD THING!!!!!  (SARCASM)

All good science forums have job sections....I just got back from PITTCON and there was a huge entire section set aside for jobs...and I know for a fact that it worked becuase I made some of those introductions thru my LINKEDIN...Introductions from people who wanted to meet with my mangers at PITTCON so they could give them their resumes.

Everyone knows PITTCON is not a job fair...it is a place where all the latest greatest scientific instrumentation is unveiled...BUT THEY HAD AN ENTIRE SECTION BLOCKED FOR EMPLOYMENT...and all those companies were hiring!!!!!!!

The people were not just there for jobs...that was a side benefit!!!!!!

So I would say that these people have to get over themselves and get used to the fact that OMG there is a woman in the mix....a woman who contributes to the site....and move on!!!!

OH...one more thing...if the job forum goes....WE (Mitch, Arkcon, Argos, Alpha-Omega, EM~Wave, chrisbb, and anyone else who has VOTED KEEP IT)...we do not lose...the whole forum polulation loses....but sometimes people are selfish and their HATRED/animus overtakes logic and reason!!!!!

They are so blinded by their own selfish motivation(s0 they do not see the big picture....So they make a big drama out of some small pet peeve...blowing everything out of proportion..instead of simply pressing the DELETE KEY.  Makes sense?  RIGHT?!!!!! (SARCASM)!!!!!!!

I mean if a blonde can find that key and implement it...can't these guys do the same thing?!!! (more Sarcasm)!!!!!!

Sometimes you have to go trough the fires of hell to reach the shores of grace.....and you cannot save peole from themselves and the havoc/damage they leave in their wake!!!!!

I am pretty sure Mitch knows all that!!!!!  I think he said:  "I like the job forum, but I will honor the result."  thaqt would be the democratic way....so we will see how it winds up!!!!  If there is a simple fix...he will implement it!!!!
