Measurement of Thermodynamic Values for (aq) ions
« on: April 01, 2008, 07:39:22 AM »
Hey guys,

I have a little understanding of this but does anyone know where I can gather more information on the topic?

I want to know how thermodynamic quantities (del H, G, S) are estimated for the ions in an aqueous environment.  One way that I am familiar with is the SHE and then just estimation of the other ion in question (Cl-) for example in HCl(aq).

But, I have my senior seminar coming up and I am going to be asked this question for sure, and I need more than one example of the problem.  Can this be done in the gas phase also?  And if it can, does that alter the values for an (aq) environment? (I would assume that the numerical values for the quantities are dependent on phase)

Any links or information would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

Take a look at the activity coefficient. a quick wiki search will help.

thanks Rabn,  I'll do a search and see what I uncover.

I am a little familiar with activity coefficients from analytical chem, but definitely could use a refresher.
