     Please answer my questions.
     1. What are the main uses of salts with crystal defects?
     2. Are they used in industry?

I think if you read a few of these articles on crystals and how defects are effected you may be able to find/reason out the answer to your question. 

Sometimes a push in the right direction can make everything CRYSTAL ;D
