Gas Constant, R

Hey im first year univeristy and taking a chem paper. I have been taught that the gas constant, R = 8.314 J / mol·K. However, my text book uses R = 0.0821 L-atm/mol-k. What is the explaination for this difference? Is the second value of R when calculating using L for volume and atm for pressure opposed to m^3 and Pa?

Numerical value depends on units constant is expressed in.

You should be able to show that the two values are equivalent (hint: 1 atm = 101.3kPa, 1L = 1 dm3)
