Ethanol, Methanol and Lye for Biofuel
« on: April 25, 2008, 02:10:31 AM »
Is there a relativly safe way of seperating %70 Ethanol that you buy from the store from the water to make pure or close to pure ethanol? I need it for a biofuel experiment and its supposed to be 100%

Has anyone here actually fould 100% lye at any store near where you live? I've looked in many places and the closest I got today was with Draino powder which has lye in it. Is there any way I can get the lye seperate from all the other junk? I believe there are bits of actual lye?

Edit: In fact I just looked around and found that I can probably find methanol as the Heet Anti freeze and Lye at Lowes as Roebic Crystal Drain Opener

has anyone here tried making their own Biofuel? How did it go? Does anyone know if you could use such a fuel in a two-stroke Go-Ped engine?

Not sure about that kind of bio-fuel ( will learn more about that in the next month or so,)

Run my own car on biofuel (rapeseed base) but dont make my own, but know of several people that do. relatively easily with "recipes" easily available on the net.

But running a two-stroke  Goped, Why? if your thinking of lowering your carbon footprint that way, you'd be better off not eating beef. A cow produces more greenhouse gases per annum out of its backside than the average family car.

mafiaparty303 -- There are many post on this topic throughout this site. These posts have links to recipe sites. You can do a search on the word diesel. This location has suggestions on sources of chemicals http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?board=53.0

munchkiness -- It is an interesting concept that all the animals in the world produce more greenhouse gas than all the automobiles in the world. You might want to post your ideas to http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?board=61.0
