I am going to be working on a synthesis doing a hydrogenation. The previous literature reports 5% Pd-C, H2. I find palladium on activated charcoal and palladium on carbon. I was wondering if someone could indicate what the difference is exactly. The reaction is the hydrogenation of dihydroxybenzoquinone to tetrahydroxybenzene. Also, when I take a look a
sigma-aldrich page for heterogeneous pd catalysts, I'm overwhelmed by the choices for carbon and charcoal types. What do things like "wet support" or "Degussa type E101 NE/W". I found that Degussa is a supplier of chemicals, is that just saying this is the equivalent?
