cobalt chlorine

ok i had to heat hydrated cobalt chlorine
we used a bunsen burner
it was red before heating and after it turned white
what happened to cause this?
I was thinking that some of the chlorine got burnt off and it reverted to the dominant color group cobalt
or that it was supersaturated but the results dont show this. there was a loss of mass..
so anyone know ?

Sure it does. It was not so much white but a bluish-white.

Could be color change is misleading. You start with the red one, it gets blue on heating, and then gets whiter and whiter... But it should never loose the weak blue tint.
