Have you ever been tested for your knowledge of the smells of organic compounds at school? And ya... doesn't Toulene smell like plastic cement? Butyric acid smells like rotten wet goat? hahahaha

There are some compounds that are easily recognizable by their smell (etc. some esthers), but IMO sniffing is not very healthy way to analyze anykind of chemicals, especially organic solvents.
