Orifice Meter

I am trying to size an orifice meter for a 2 inch pipe, with 6000 scfh flowing through it. I need to calculate the bore size of the pipe but I need the differential pressure of the meter to do this. I', not sure, but how do you calcualte the differential pressure without knowing the bore size?

Hello nertil1,

A good place to start is with Bernoulli's principle. Since this is dependent on the density of the material, you may need to take an 'educated guess' to come up with reasonable numbers. The velocity along the streamline is dependent on the reduced orifice size (which is dependent on the original size of the pipe).

Calculating the differential pressure based on this formula and using a 'what-if' scenario for a bore size should be a good estimate for the information that you are asking.
