What is a weak polyelectrolyte
« on: August 18, 2008, 06:57:14 AM »
Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what the difference between a strong and a weak electrolyte is. More specifically, I am wondering if Glutamic acid is a weak electrolyte, and if so why?  Any help is appreciated. THANK!

Simply, strong electrolyte dissociate almost completely (or completely), weak electrolytes do not dissociate completely.

Cheers for the info, I was just wondering, you know how the article says that for a weak polyelectrolyte the pK(a) or pK(b) value must be between 2-10, is this correct? is there a more reliable source than wikipedia for this?
