Analytical Determination of Chemical Formula
« on: October 01, 2008, 05:18:08 PM »
This problem looks a lot like previous ones I've encountered, but I just can't seem to figure it out because I don't know the mass of the compound.

Compound: KxTi(C2O4)y·nH2O

The oxalate in the compound was found by KMnO4 titration to constitute 50.85% of its mass. In the chemical formula of the compound, what is y?

I determined the number of moles of oxalate I'd have per 100 grams of compound... but I can't think of what else to do.

Any ideas?
Thanks.
