I recently oxidized d-menthol to d-menthone using NaBRO3 and CAN in acetonitrile/H2O. I noticed the reflux was orange like the CAN and when the solvent was removed it was orange (and later yellow) in the recovery flask? Is the CAN being carried with the solvent or is this a side reaction or product?
