Hello all, im only a lowly undergrad but i have great enthusiasm and interest in physical chemistry. Anyways recently i expressed my interest to a pchem proffesor at my school, and he said hed be happy to have me do "research" with him despite me not having taken pchem yet. He said i could start small with different projects and progress as time went. Now this is where i need advice. For my first project hes handed me a uv laser he found, specifically the VSL-337 (stats can be found here http://www.newport.com/VSL-337-Nitrogen-Laser/368231/1033/catalog.aspx)

Anyways he wants me to get it working, the problem, it operates on a turn key mechanism, and theres no key!!!! anyways do any of you guys have any advice for bypassing the turn key mechanism. I have a feeling all his grad and post doc students are laughing at me behind my back so itd be great to get it working. So far i havnt been able to find anything online, ive even gone as far as trying to lock pick it but its completely different from any normal lock ive picked. So any ideas guys?

Somehow your story doesn't sound convincing to me, but if that's true - try to contact Newport Corp., chances are they will be able to make a duplicate key knowing serial number of the device.

hmm not convincing? well thats my situation i figured someone here may have had a similar problem so i figured id ask thats all, i didn't mean to come off shady, i apologize if i did. Thanks for the suggestion though
