Hi, I'm new to this forum, hoping I get a good response from this first post.

My question is: how do I produce a harmless coloured gas from combining two or more liquids (also preferred relatively harmless)?  The reason I ask, I wish I could, but I cannot give precisely, but is related to a project I'm doing for a school.

I've applied my GCSE chemistry (getting foggier) and the closest we got to something was using acids to produce (colourless) carbon dioxide.  Google only gives me information on a kind of fractional distillation as far as I could see, so I've come here!

This question pops now and again (search the forums) and the general consensus is that there doesn't exist harmless and easy to produce coloured gas. Sorry.

Can I ask then, is the simplest way to create a coloured gas by making a mixture like this http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryhowtoguide/a/coloredsmoke.htm, and are there any other ways of making coloured gases that would give similar results, regardless of complexity?

This is not gas, this is smoke (aerosol).

Sorry, I should have made the distinction, is there a simple way of producing coloured smoke by use of liquids or an alternative to the above method?
