Hi
Is it possible in home conditions to make sodium chlorite of sodium chloride? For watercleaning purposes I need NaClO2. I know that there are other possibilities to clean water, but in this case nothing else will do. As I am total blueberry in chemistry, I hope anyone can help me. Thanks in advance.

hi,

googled bit, you can start off with NaCl to produce sodium chlorate: http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Campus/5361/chlorate/sodium.html

then using sodium chlorate to produce sodium chlorite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_chlorite

from reading it, i think it is possible, but i haven't done it before though.

I believe you can by electrolyzing NaCl in a single aqueous solution without a salt bridge or gas chambers.
