Limiting Reagent - Is this correct?

Question1: What is the maximum amount of ethanol that can be produced when 1kg of ethylene and .010kg of steam are placed into the reaction vessel?

Answer:
C2H4 + H2O -> C2H5OH

moles C2H4 = 1000g/28.05g/mol = 35.65
moles H2O = 10g/18.02g/mol = .5549
Mole Ratio 1:1 therefore H2O is the limiting reagent
.5549 moles of C2H5OH
Mass C2H5OH = .5549mol x 46.07g/mol
= 25.56g


Question 2: .360mol of PCl5 was slowly added to 2.88mol of water
a) What reactant if either, was the limiting reactant?
b) How many grams of HCl were formed int he reaction?

.360 mol PCl5 x 1 mol PCl5/5 mol HCl= 0.072 mol HCl
2.88 mol H2O x 1 mol H2O/5 mol HCl= 0.576 mol HCl

therefore PCl5 is the limiting reagent.

0.072 mol of HCLl were formed in reaction or 14.8 g of HCl

I dont get it here. write out the full equation?

Thanks for the response.

Sorry, the full equation is: PCl5 + 4H2O -> H3PO4 + 5HCl

I changed my work to this:
.360mol PCl5 = .360/5 =0.720
2.88mol H2O = 2.88/4 = 0.720
Therefore, there is no limiting reagent, both are equally used up.
26.3g of HCl was produced in the reaction

Hopefully this is correct!

no, why do you divide by 5? the stoichio ratio of PCl5 is 1. So PCl5 is the limiting reagent. (0.360 vs 0.720)
