2Liter Bottle Explosion
« on: April 11, 2008, 06:13:37 PM »
I'm looking for a spontaneous reaction involving readily available (and cheap) compounds that form a very large volume of gas.  Basically I'm looking for a sodium bicarb/acetic acid type reaction, but one that would release 3-4+ moles of gas/cycle.  Either liquid/liquid or solid/liquid reactions would work, as both are easy to isolate from each other for long enough to toss the bottle a safe distance.

Thanks,
Nick

EDIT: [ ... ], makes an acceptable bang.  Though I'd be worried about the backlash ...

Remember that explosions are inherently dangerous. Even small-scale events have been damaging.

This type of thing can hurt... A LOT.

Going as big as possible isn't always the best idea.

In other words be very careful and don't go too big.

If any of the admins feel I'm saying to much feel free to edit this, but it's somewhat common knowledge and very popular (At least in my area). It's easy to find instructions online.

EDIT: [ ... ]

Be smart. Be safe. Be careful.
Don't over do it. Don't do something stupid.
RESPECT the energy that is released.

All right.  This thread has crossed the line.  I've edited out the 'how to' parts and such and locked the topic.
