Extraction of quantum dots from solution
« on: January 26, 2012, 01:35:34 PM »
Hi guys I'm in my 3rd year of undergrad currently undertaking my project. In this we have synthesised CdSe quantum dots using the method found in the following journal: A safer, easier, fast synthesis of CdSe quantum dot nano crystals which was performed using octadecene as a solvents. We know what to try and grow a ZnSe shell on these crystal using the method in the journal article Highly luminescent CdSe/ZnSe core/shell nano crystals of low size dispersion. However this method involves using solid quantum dots so was wondering if there was anyway to extract the crystals from solution and whether they would be stable, I assume they would be. Would it be okay to use the above synthesis using octadecene as the solvent instead of the TOPO/HDA solvent mentioned in the journal. Any help would be good and will post any TEM results that are successful.
