Could somebody please explain the definition of Osmol (Osm):
"the weight in grams of a solute osmotically equivalent to one gram-molecular weight of an ideally behving nonelectrolyte."
I understand that 1 Osm = 1 mol and that osmotic pressure is based on the number of particles (molecules or ions), but I don't understand what the definition means by "weight in grams" and "one gram-molecular weight." How is this related to Osm, moles and the particles?
