my question is, is there a possible way to measure the enthalpy of combustion of Magnesium directly?
if yes, what would be called and how would it work?
we did a Hess's Law Lab today, and in it we had to find the molar enthalpy of Mg + 1/2 O2 --> MgO, which was pretty easy because we were able to find the molar enthalpy of;
Mg + 2HCl --> H2 + MgCl2
H2 + 1/2 O2 --> H2O (l)
MgO + 2HCl --> H2O + MgCl2
we found the enthalpies for these 3 reactions, and next we were able to use Hess's manipulations and find the enthalpy for the net equation;
Mg + 1/2 O2 --> MgO
my question is, is there a possible way to measure the enthalpy of combustion of Magnesium directly?
if yes, what would be called and how would it work?
thanks in advance
