Recipe for luminescent zinc sulfide?
« on: November 15, 2008, 06:51:06 PM »
Hi,
Does anyone know how to dope zinc sulfide to make it glow in the dark?
I have a way of making the ZnS (Bubble Hydrogen sulfide through zinc chloride solution) but don't know of a way to dope it, or what to dope it with for that matter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Tungsten.

Appears to need 100ppm CuS so try adding a trace of CuSO4 to the solution first. Typed 'luminescent zinc sulfide' into Google and got the Federal Specification. My old books also mention Mn, but this may be unnecessary.
