Do you have to consider hydride/alkyl shifts in E1 eliminations? Both processes are intramolecular, so not sure =/

As a blanket example, I would say yes. It depends as well on what structure you get after the shift, how stable, etc.

Apparently E1 isn't intramolecular; you do need some sort of weak base to pull off the proton. (so yea, you do need to consider potential hydride shifts). Thanks.
