Molar mass of potassium chromium dodecohydrate??
« on: December 02, 2008, 10:54:50 PM »
I'm assuming potassium chromium dodecohydrate has the molecular equation of: KCr(SO4)2•12H2O

I calculated the molar mass to be around 449. Is this correctly done? Thanks.

Where did the sulfate come from?

EDIT:  You must mean Chromium Potassium Sulfate Dodecahydrate:

Our class is doing an alum synthesis report. I'm not sure how to write out the name of the chemical in terms of elements because our class has not learned that system of naming.

Do you know what the formula for the compound should be?

Does Potassium Chromium Duodecahydrate even exist? What could my professor mean that is closest to an alum synthesis lab report?

Read the link.  It has the formula in it, and the molar mass.

Thanks but does potassium Chromium Duodecahydrate even exist? (Did my professor forget the "Sulfate" in the name?)

I don't think it does.  There is no counterion for the Potassium and Chromium.  I think your professor probably just forgot the Sulfate.

Sounds like. There are many similar mixed sulfates with two ions, one +3, other +1.
