Hydrogen Moves a piston
« on: December 08, 2008, 10:12:39 AM »
Hey,I'm kinda new to this forum and this is my first post...anyway I'm working on a project and I have a question...

Can the hydrogen gas with a certain amount move a piston of diesel engine? and can we calculate the amount used?
I think this has to do with force or something.. I don't know can anyone please help me. and if there is an equation please mention it.

Hello, i have never really applied what i learnt in physics to real life problems. Perhaps i could suggest you an equation. Do you know about F = p  :delta: V at constant pressure, where F is force supplied on the system(piston), p is pressure and  :delta: V is change in volume of piston. I think this formula might only applied to gas behave ideally or close to, i am not very sure.
No matters what results are waiting for us, it's nothing but the DESTINY!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to have something generating the pressure.

There are compressed air engines, yes. Yes you could do it with hydrogen, but it would be very dangerous because it is so reactive with oxygen.
