« on: December 13, 2008, 01:19:52 AM »
I am well aware of how to cite a primary article in chemistry but how about citing a book?  anybody know the format?  if it helps the book is:
Transition Metals in the Synthesis of Complex Organic Molecules By Louis S. Hegedus. Second Editions published in 1999

thank you

Depends what format you're using.

In, e.g. Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2007, 46, 1378 – 1413 (http://www.dx.doi.org/10.1002/anie.200601551), journals are cited along the lines of G. Stork, S. M. McElvain, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1946, 68, 1053 – 1057, and books as The Columbia Encyclopedia, Columbia University Press, New York, 2000 or A Survey of Antimalarial Drugs 1941–1945, Vol. 1–3 (Ed. : F. Y. Wiselogle), J.W. Edwards, Ann Arbor, MI, 1946.

Personally I might have put page or chapter numbers and edition numbers in if relevant as well.

Sorry, the URI is actually http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/anie.200601551 (no www)
