Saturated Solution of HCl in Ethanol
« on: December 18, 2008, 06:51:42 AM »
Does anybody know the concentration (or %) of a saturated solution of HCl in Etahanol at room temperature?

I couldn't hazard a guess. I imagine it would hold quite some bit of HCl gas as EtOH is fairly polar.

I'd check the CRC, it might be in there somewhere.

Failing that, there's always the experiment option: take a known quantity of EtOH and bubble HCl until saturated (constant mass). Make sure that you measure the temp of the alcohol, it may be exothermic.

Let us know how it goes!
Neither flask nor beaker.
