Is it enough to just maintain the pH at 10 to make sure that only the Mg(II) ions will complex with EDTA?
I specifically need to mask Al(III) and Zn(II) ions in my samples (deodorants) however our lab does not have triethanolamine and using KCN is too dangerous. I'm also pretty sure that the samples do not contain Ca(II) ions. If it's not enough to maintain the pH what could be possible alternatives for the said masking agents?
Lastly, if it's not possible to determine Mg using such conditions for EDTA titration, is there any other titration or gravimetric method that could possibly be used?
Thanks!
