Help with synthesis of compound
« on: February 22, 2009, 05:48:58 AM »
Please can someone suggest how compound A may be prepared from compound B?

I believe there is a Friedel Crafts alkylation reaction involved to add the t-propyl group on, but not sure which order this will occur in.

Both OH and OMe are o/p directors, so both would direct the alkyl group to the ortho position since the para position is already substituted.

However, I'm not sure how to form the OH from the OMe.

Thanks in advance.

Dear aldoxime_amine,

So, is this method of preparation possible?

First friedel-crafts alkylation to get the alkyl group, then treatment with HI to convert the ether group to the alcohol group.

Would this work?

Thanks,

RL
