Getting rid of acetonitrile
« on: March 01, 2009, 06:09:23 PM »
I used acetonitrile as a solvent and I want to extract it. My question what should I add that is immiscible so I can get rid of the acetonitrile.

I don't know of a method to do that.  It is so easy to evaporate, with mild heat under a stream of dry nitrogen, or in a vacuum concentrator of some type, that people usually do that.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

This is assuming your compound is non-volatile which I'm guessing it is. In that case, spin it down and partition between something like DCM/H2O. Again not knowing what layer your compound will be soluble in thats it. Or simply spin down and purify....
