Ok so there is a problem in which we add a Copper metal to a test tube and mix it with aqueous Chlorine. What do we expect too happen?
Well, I'm guessing this reaction forms Copper(II)Chloride.
Am I right to think that the equation is 2Cl^- + Cu^2+ --->CuCl(2)
I think that's been properly balanced.
The next question is that once we have added some hexane (C6H14) into the tube, what colour should be expected for the hexane layer and the aqueous layer and explain why.
Ok so I know that Hexane is a colourless liquid and when mixing Chlorine with hexane it remains colourless. I checked a video online and it looks as though chlorine with copper turned green. So am I right to assume that the hexane layer will be colourless and the aqueous layer will be green?
And finally the last question asks whether Copper with Chlorine is a spontaneous reaction.
I'm thinking yes it is.
