Hello Organic Chemists,

I am doing the end of chapter questions and I have come across this IUPAC naming question.
I have inserted my thoughts below, and I am begging someone to help.
After 62 questions, this one needs some assistance.

a. 1,1-(4-Chlorophenylbromo)propane carboxylic acid - NO
b. 1-Bromo-1-(p-chlorophenyl)propanoic acid              NO
c. 1-p-Chlorophenyl-1-bromoethanecarboxylic acid      NO
d. 3-Bromo-3-(p-chlorophenyl)propanoic acid              YES numbering carboxylic acids take precedence over all.
e. 3-Bromo-p-chloro-phenylpropanoic acid                  YES could be this one too right? However the p-chloro-phenyl is not numbered as on the 3 carbon
 
How can I make a choice between d and e??

D.  Can you see how naming it 3-bromo-p-chloro... implies that the bromine is on the 3 position of the ring.  So you will have the bromine ortho to the chlorine (or meta to the side chain, however you look at it).

Yes macman that is also what I was thinking, however just wanted to double check.
Sometimes IUPAC naming can be very tricky and send me off on a loop.
