Grading students in Belgium

points to get on 20, following rules are used by a lot of professors ==>

20/20 is impossible, no one is perfect..

19/20 is almost perfect, not even I (the professor) is that good.

18/20 thats for me, I am the professor, I know my stuff, I know this course, I know more then you, 18 is for me, the teacher.

17/20 , WOW you are a good student, you are almost ready to become a professor yourself, interested in becoming a phd student and work for me?

16/20 very good examen, you are one of the best!

15/20 you are very good, top class student

14/20 top student! did very well

13/20 you did great, its good, a little bit more luck next time and you get distinction.

12/20 you are better then average

11/20 average

10/20 you just made it, thats good, you dont need more then 10 to pass.

9/20 too bad, you migh have passed it with some luck..

Remember: when you get 68% in belgium you are awarded with distinction!

Another funny part of examens: you get to learn 1500 -2000 pages and when you take your exam they ask you 1 (when you are lucky 2 or 3) questions regarding 0.5-1 page of the 2000 pages you learnt... very very funny...

Briefly, when I was in college, I too was obsessed on the numerical ranking, and what each number really meant.  I asked the librarians for a source of true magical number/grade correlation, as I wanted to how low a grade I could get on the upcoming final, and still pass.  They couldn't help, but the passing member of the faculty review board jumped into the conversation to inform us -- there was no such correlation.  No particular numerical grade was required to be averaged, weight, scaled, whatever to mean a pass or a fail.  The sooner college kids realize that, the better off they are.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Hey Pollick,
I would like to know if you are in the US now and if you got any grades from Belgium evaluated and if you know anybody, or Centers, doing an accurate job.
Thanks a bunch!

sorry for the late reply, but I was on holiday.

I am not in the us now and what centers are you looking for? I do not understand your question completely.
