« on: April 06, 2009, 09:37:17 PM »
Hey guys/gals.

This is something that i have never been able to do but always seems to come up in exams/tests and such.

If  i have say 1.32g of CO2 determine how much of this is oxygen and determine oxygens mole?

Thanks

Josh

You can use a weight percent.

Can you calculate the molecular weight of CO2?
If I have 1 mole of CO2 how many moles of oxygen do I have?

What's the molar mass of CO2?

How many moles of CO2 do you have?

How many moles of oxygen are there in one mole of CO2?

How many moles of oxygen are there?

What's the molar mass of oxygen?

How many grams of oxygen do you have?

44
How many moles of CO2 do you have?
1.32 / 44 = .03
How many moles of oxygen are there in one mole of CO2?

How many moles of oxygen are there?
.06
What's the molar mass of oxygen?
16
How many grams of oxygen do you have?
.06 * 16 = .96
