What do you think some other reactions may be - and why not the Edman degradation? There are a few examples at wiki, for instance.

Because a company that I know offers chemicals all based on IsothioCyanate structure! And I wondered what they could be used for??? Can they be converted into Amines, Alcohols, Aldehydes or into other functional groups??? Do PhenylIsoCyanates carry the same properties as Aliphatic Isocyanates???

Combine an amine with an isothiocyanate and you get a thiourea. Mop up the excess isothiocyanate with a scavenger and, bam, your compund is there. Quick and pure. This is a convenient way to make a small library of different thioureas.

Medicinal chemists tend to like stuff like this, hence some companies specialize in selling this type of reactive building blocks.
