sonication with whimpy ultrasonic cleaner?
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:15:28 AM »
Hi forum, please excuse my cluelessness, I'm a total newbie.

I'm trying to sonicate some soy protein (soy flour, actually), but the proper devices aren't in my price range, so I thought I'd try buying a cheap ultrasonic cleaner, and was hoping that increasing the sonication time would offset the lack of power. No success so far, but I might have to try longer. (it's meant to turn into a gel or foam)

Now I'm wondering if there is maybe a lower threshhold under which just nothing happens at all?
(Otoh, I did manage to denature some egg whites)

Any tips much appreciated :)
