Quantum Mechanical vs. Bohr.
« on: May 27, 2005, 08:37:04 PM »
I have an exam coming up and I'm having some trouble with these two models.

My teacher has given us this list  to label as either the QM model or the Bohr, or both. I've put beside them what I think they are, but i'm not sure on a few.. so if you could check it for me, i'd appreciate it.

has orbits - B
has orbitals - Q
is divided into energy levels - Q
electrons can jump from one energy level to another - B
number of electrons equals protons unless an ion forms - ??
energy levels are divided into sublevels - Q
Electron motion is random within an area of highest probability - Q
electrons orbit the nuclues - B
explains the complex spectra of mutielectron atoms - ??
each electron is described by a set of quantum numbers - Q
electron movement forms a cloud - Q

Electrons can jump from one energy level to another in both Bohr and Quantuum models and the QM explains the behavior of multi electron atoms (atoms other than Hydrogen).

The number of electrons = number of protons unless an ion formed is a part of both BM and QM

Other than that it looks pretty good to me

(I hope my answers are right :) )
