How to make best detergent foam??
« on: May 18, 2009, 04:02:32 AM »
Hi fellow members!

I do indeed thank you in advance for taking time to read and response  :)

I'm trying to come up with a recipe for the best detergent foam. I want to be able to make a foam that will be light, waterless, STICKY (not falling apart) and grow quickly in HUGE quantities.

Also I want it to grow when air comes from the bottom of the waterpool when this magic liquid is added  (like jacuzzi).

The foam doesn't need to have any other usefull properties ie be able to wash things and so on.

As I have no knowledge about chemistry, I would kindly ask you to suggest simple solutions or name the components that help foam to achieve desired state. I'll try to find ready-made detergents that contain components you name.

Also, as i live outside the US, I may not know some of the detergent brands sold there, so please provide the component name  ;)

Ok, after few hours reading Wikipedia I found out which components I need and which i don't:

GOOD COMPONENTS (GROW FOAM):

sodium laureth sulfate
sodium lauryl sulfate
ammonium lauryl sulfate

BAD COMPONENTS (KILL FOAM):
oils
silica
wax
polyethelene glycol

Now, do you know any magic component that could also help to form good foam?  :)

Can we also assume you want something people can touch without harm?

No, lets assume people would not touch it, albeit there might be some contact with the solution during the setup stage.

Are you talking about high pH levels?

People doing home repair use a sort of foam insulation, some of which is organic base and not water base. It does solidify after a while. It can also give off gases or have chemicals, which are toxic after some exposure.

I didn't really get your point. I know what foam you are talking about but how is that connected to the bath foam?

Im talking about the foam firefighters use and how to make it last longer  ;)
