Buying salt bridge
« on: April 27, 2009, 06:59:22 PM »
Hi guys,

I am trying to make an electrochemical cell composed of two half cells. The two half cells need to be connected using a salt bridge. I was wondering where could I buy a salt bridge that I could use. Please let me know. Your help will be really appreciated.

Regards.

p.s. If you think that the only way to use a salt bridge is to make one in the lab, please let me know if you know how to do so.

Do not post the same topic on multiple forums!
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

Do you have a text book handy with a diagram?  Failing that, can you figure it out from the wikipedia page? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrochemical_cell

Dear coolestsoul;

I don’t believe you can easily buy them for several reasons.

Why not do it by yourself?  See on:

A soaked piece of paper will do, cheap, effective, and easy.

Bend a glass tube into a U-shape.  Fill with 1M KNO3 solution.  Cotton wad the ends.  Invert between two beakers.  Stereotypical salt bridge appearance.
